Education and Career

Geeta Nandoe Tewarie has been a dedicated lawyer since 1999, with a strong commitment to her clients. She graduated in private and corporate law from Leiden University in 1998. Early in her career, she specialized in liability law, later transitioning to family law, including juvenile law.

Family Law Specialist

In these legal areas, she supports clients during vulnerable times. Whether dealing with a divorce, custody case, or a guardianship order, having a lawyer who is both critical and client-focused is essential. She takes a broad view, ensuring to also consider the best interests of the children. She is deeply affected when parents are no longer allowed to see their children, knowing that this is something a child carries for life. With clients being better informed nowadays, partly thanks to the internet, some believe they can handle complex matters like calculating alimony or drafting binding agreements on their own. This often leads to misunderstandings, which can be difficult to resolve afterward. Ms. Nandoe is a committed lawyer with a focus on sustainable solutions. She has worked for years as a specialized vFAS lawyer and vFAS divorce mediator.

She also assists patients who are involuntarily admitted with a court order. She specializes in psychiatric patients’ rights.

Mediator

Her involvement as a divorce mediator can help ease relations between parties, working best when both parties are willing to compromise. Ms. Nandoe strives to facilitate this process optimally. In addition to her work as a lawyer, she has also served, motivated by her social engagement and legal experience, as Secretary for the Actual Damages Committee for victims of the Dutch childcare benefits scandal, where she assisted in the legal evaluation of damage claims.

Trusted Advisor

Ms. Nandoe is a trusted advisor, approaching cases with a critical eye and taking steps in close consultation with her clients to reach solutions. She has extensive experience handling various legal proceedings. While her aim is always to reach sound agreements through mutual consultation, she does not shy away from litigation when necessary for her clients. She is a lawyer at heart, skilled in handling cases with an international legal aspect.

Additional Activities

Alongside her work as a lawyer, Geeta has positively utilized her extensive litigation experience by working as a skills trainer at the professional training institute for the legal profession since 2004. She is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and values expertise. For 15 years, she has also been a trainer in family law at the legal profession’s training program. Additionally, she has taught “legal skills” at Erasmus School of Law in Rotterdam and family law at the University of Amsterdam. Teaching and engaging with students energize her, allowing her to share her passion for and knowledge of the law. Lastly, she contributes to the greater good. She has been involved with the International Bar Association and the Dutch Bar Association from the start, where she serves as a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Platform.

In short, Geeta is a specialized, committed lawyer with a solution-oriented approach, unafraid of litigation. She also works on a subsidized legal aid basis.

She is registered in the legal areas register for family law.
